Capture the Colour 2013 – A Journey Through Travel Photos

It’s back! Last year Mr. Misadventures and I had so much fun looking through our thousands of photos to participate in the 2012 version of Capture the Colour.  When my darling friend, Andi Perullo of My Beautiful Adventures nominated me in her post, I was raring to go!

Capture the Colour is a photo blogging challenge hosted by TravelSupermarket.com. And while I’d love to win the £3,000 travel fund (or any other prize), I love the process of finding hidden gems in our photo library.

To participate in the contest, bloggers must create a post that showcases five photos that captures five colors: Blue, Green, Yellow, White and Red.  It’s a judged contest (by some really cool travel and photo bloggers) which ups the level of excitement!  Last year we were a favorite in the white category which was thrilling!

Learn more about the Capture the Colour contest as well as who the judges are and what they will be looking for on the TravelSupermarket.com website.

Here are my entries for 2013.

This photo was taken just this past weekend while visiting Bodie, California.  We spent the afternoon walking the entire site taking photos.  Right in the middle of our time a thunderstorm came through dumping down rain and lightning for about 30 minutes and then the storm completely disappeared.  That’s why the clouds are so ominous. And if you look closely you can see the rain spots in the blue paint.

Green taken in Osaka, Japan

There is so much beauty in the temples of Osaka and Kyoto. Every where you look the large amounts of rainfall has turned this area of Japan into a lush green wonderland. We are heading here for Thanksgiving to spend more time in the temples (well and to eat too).  There is a quiet beauty here that is daunting in terms of trying to capture it on film.

Yellow taken in Mt. Zion, Utah

Heading out of Zion National Park on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Road you twist and turn as you climb the hillside and enter and exit various tunnels, some longer than others.  As usual, Mr. Misadventures likes to test the limits of our marriage by nearly giving me a heart-attack when he lies in the middle of a busy road to take shot of the yellow road strips.  Even if we win this contest with this shot it doesn’t make up for the anxiety he causes me everything he dos this!

White taken in White Pocket, Arizona

It’s in the name.  The white rocks at White Pocket are mesmerizing.  Centuries of elements twisting and turn the rocks into strange formations with a myriad of textures. Every color pops in this area where mother nature has not been gentle or kind.

Red taken in Giverny, France

After spending several hours surrounded by a million shades of green while visiting Monet’s Giverny a few months ago, we were shocked to see a field of coquelicots as we walked through the actual town.  You can find these gorgeous red flowers growing wild all over France. And the only way to enjoy them is outside in all its glory because once you pick them they die. We take every opportunity we can to stop and enjoy them whenever we see them.

That’s it! I hope you enjoyed my selections. As part of the contest I have the opportunity to nominate other bloggers to participate as well and here are my choices:

1. Jennifer of JenX67 > She didn’t participate last year, I am hoping she does this time around.  Her project Photos and Generations is perfect for this, her only problem will be selecting which photos to use!

2. Kristin of Camels & Chocolate > She participated last year and her photos were gorgeous.

3. Lindsey of Lost in Cheeseland > Lindsey could nail this!

4. Murissa of Wanderfull Traveler > Belvedere Ice Room for blue, Murissa?!!

5. Katie Gard of Domestiphobia > Katie has a log of great photos on her site, she has been on the road for weeks and probably has a 1000 of them!

What about you? There is still time to enter. Find out more details on the TravelSupermarket.com website.
